6 Things to Do After You Move

So you just moved into a new place. Congratulations! This can be a very stressful time in your life, but also a very rewarding one. You head is probably spinning right now. Here are 6 things to do after you move:

1. Take a Deep Breath

So you’re standing on your porch and the moving trucks are pulling out of the driveway. Wave goodbye to the movers and take a deep breath. You are over halfway there! You’ve made it past the process of packing, organizing, trying to find a local moving company and closing on your new apartment, condo or home. You should feel accomplished!

2. Do a deep cleaning

Now is the perfect time to do a deep cleaning. Assuming most of your boxes are scattering in the center of the room, it is the perfect opportunity to clean the baseboards and wipe down the walls. Inspect the electrical outlets during this time as well. Of course, if you haven’t moved yet and you do have access to your new home, you can always clean before you move. This will give you access to the floors.

3. Find the Essentials

One of the first things you’ll do after you move is find the essentials. What will you need for the rest of that day or evening, as well as the following day. If you thought ahead, you probably packed a bag of essentials (clothes and toiletries). However, if you didn’t, that’s okay! Rummage through your boxes and bags to find the necessities (toothbrush, shampoo, PJs and a change of clothes for the morning).

4. Call a Local Window Treatment Company

As you’ve probably noticed, your windows are pretty bare. The neighbors can see right in your home! It’s time to call on a local window treatment company to cover you windows with blinds, shades, curtains or plantation shutters. Choose a company with a good reputation. We recommend custom window treatments, as they are designed to fit perfectly in your window. Check out this website to learn more about custom window coverings.

5. Meet the Neighbors

Don’t be shy! Get out there and meet the neighbors. Chances are, they’ve been peeking out of their blinds wonder who is moving next door. Pop on by and introduce yourself. Not only will you make some new friends, but you’ll have contacts nearby in case of emergency or perhaps if you’re going out of town and need someone to watch your dogs.
