Fentanyl Contributing to Surge in Overdoses

Overdoses: A Cruel and Often Fatal Aspect of Drug and Alcohol Addiction and Abuse

For decades now, the final battle that is fought against drug and alcohol addiction has been that of trying to prevent an overdose from occurring.  This is easily the most concerning and upsetting aspect of the potential addict’s abuses.  The threat of an overdose always looms over the head of any drug or alcohol addict, and that threat never goes away until the addict either goes through a drug rehabilitation Naperville program or overdoses and dies.  In the United States in general, overdoses have become a lot more common and prevalent.  For example:

  • 100 people die every day from drug overdoses of one kind or another. This rate has tripled in the past 20 years alone, and it is likely that it will reach over 200 people a day dying by the year 2025 at the rate that these deaths are increasing at.  Drug and alcohol overdoses are a very real and a very common thing that occurs a lot more frequently than many people think.  This is one of the main ways that those who abuse drugs end up dying from them.
  • Painkillers of one kind or another cause almost 3 out of 4 prescription overdoses.  In the year of 2009, 1 in 3 prescription painkiller overdoses were caused by methadone of one kind or another.  Overdoses caused by painkillers are more common than heroin and cocaine overdoses combined.  In fact, painkiller overdoses are more common than all other types of overdoses except for alcohol overdoses.
  • Amphetamines and methamphetamines are an extremely dangerous class of drugs that are central nervous system stimulants that cause intense highs and equally powerful overdoses.  While amphetamines are typically acquired through a prescription, methamphetamines are classified as an illicit substance in the same class as cocaine, except these drugs are even more popular than cocaine is.

Overdoses on the Rise in Naperville

Sadly, overdoses are becoming very common and prevalent in Naperville, more common in fact here than they are in a lot of other places and locations.  The truth of the matter here is that drug and alcohol addiction is often thought to be at its worse in the greater Chicago area, and this belief is epitomized by the overdose crisis that is occurring in Naperville right now. The city of Naperville with the help of the state of Illinois, is trying to have a drug rehab in southern Illinois recovery programs available to the Naperville residents as well.

This is not a new thing though.  Residents of Naperville have been overdosing left and right for years now, and a lot of them have been dying from it.  When the actual facts and statistics are examined and looked at more closely, it has been found that the issue is really seen to be at its worst with Fentanyl.  Fentanyl is a legal, prescribed, supposedly safe and helpful drug that is intended to be beneficial for people, but it often ends up just begin very addictive.

Hundreds of people have already died from Fentanyl alone in Naperville, and hundreds more will die too if nothing is done about it.  Now is the time for the residents of the area to stand up and make a change in their lives and the lives of those addicted by pushing for widespread of a drug rehab Naperville for these addicts.
