What Are the Best Transport Options in Rome?

The beautiful city of Rome has two airports: Fiumicino and Ciampino. From the two of them, Fiumicino is busiest. When it comes to transport options from the airport to the city, travelers have many options, varying from public transportation services to taxis or renting a car. When it comes to renting a car, you can drop the price a little if you pre-order the car online. Some hotels also offer shuttle services with small vans that hold between 8 and 16 people. Depending on your holiday budget you can opt for the Rome airport transfers options that best fit your need.

Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) Airport Transfers

Although Fiumicino is a large airport, all passengers terminals are clustered together. This means that all public transportation leaves from one central point and not from each terminal. You can take both the bus or the train, which will get you to the Termini Station in the centre of Rome, taxis or hotel shuttles.

Leonardo Express Airport Train

If you choose to take the train, you have the Leonardo Express Airport Train, which is the fastest way to get to the centre of the city. The train station is at 5-10 minute walk from the exit terminal and in 30 minutes you will be in Rome. The first train departs from the airport at 6:38 am and the last one at 11:38 pm. The one-way ticket for an adult is €14, and it is free for children under 12.

Airport Bus Services

If you want a cheaper transportation option, you can choose the Terravision bus. You can also order on-line the departure time which fits your needs and you can also reserve a seat. If you miss your pre-booked bus, your ticket is still available for the next departure. The ticket is € 9 for a single trip or € 15 for return trip included. It will take 70 minutes to get to the city and five stops.

Taxi, Private Cars and Hotel Shuttles

If you do not travel on a strict budget you have other options such as taxis, hotel shuttles or private vehicles. The licensed taxi companies have fixed tariffs for the transfer from Fiumicino airport to Rome. The tariff includes the luggage. Still, be aware that some companies will charge you if you travel with a lot of luggage.
