How to choose between Saline and Silicone Breast Implants?

Nowadays, a lot of women are incorporating breast implants to make their breasts appear bigger and fuller. Implants can enhance physical appearance and boost self-confidence. Also, when it comes to breast augmentation, one of the big decisions is whether to opt for saline or silicone breast implants. Both saline and silicone implants consist of an outer shell of silicone. They mainly differ in material and consistency.

Choosing between Saline and Silicone Breast Implants

Saline breast implants involve silicone shell insertion and then filling that shell with sterile salt water. In this method of breast implants, both doctor and patient get flexibility to decide how much saline to be injected for getting the desired size and look. The saline implants can be prefilled, or filled when they are inserted in. They can be adjusted later.

In case, the breast implants leaks or breaks, the patient do not have health risk as the saline water can be absorbed into the bloodstream and expelled by the body naturally. However, the silicone shell is required to be removed after leakage. At same time, a new shell may replace the old shell.

Saline breast implants give a uniform shape, consistent firmness and regular feel. This augmentation is for women age 18 or above.

Silicone implants have pre-filled silicone gel which is inserted in. The silicone gel is a thick and sticky fluid which closely imitates the feel of fat. Neither doctor nor patient can make size adjustments; all silicone implants have standardized sizes which are pre-filled by manufacturers.

If the silicone implants breaks or leaks, they do not have any health risk but when they break, they are required to be removed. Also, if the patient wishes to replace the leaking implant, new implants can be inserted when the old ones are removed.

After silicone implantation, women have to visit doctor on regular basis, to ensure that implants are functioning properly. The ultrasound screening and MR screening can bulge about the breast implant condition. The silicone breast implants are for women having age 22 years or above, and breast reconstruction is approved for women of any age.

The cost of both silicone breast implants and saline breast implants procedures are different, and they depend upon your geographical location and plastic surgeon or doctor. The saline implants are cheaper than silicone implants. However, most women think that silicone breast implants appear and feel more natural.
